THE SCOPE

Relevant Art is a nonprofit that works with the Nosu Yi people. 
The Nosu Yi are considered one of the most impoverished minority groups in China. Consequently, children are typically raised by single-parents as villages are generally poverty and/or drug stricken. Relevant Art's focus is to empower families with financial and holistic well being.

The Prodigal Project was a two year long project, translating healthy family-centered stories visually, culturally, and contextually for the Nosu Yi families.

The entire process was a collaborative effort. Our team spent over a year gathering ethnographic interviews and research and another 6 months completing the first story (The Prodigal Son). Key components of stories were broken down and examined meticulously as to what Nosu Yi equivalents would be. Cultural nuances such as hand gestures, facial expressions, and color selection were considered to ensure nothing would be lost in translation.
